The law is changing

From 2027, you'll be asked to show it.

The Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act creates a statutory Children Not in School register. Every local authority in England must keep one — and home-educating families will be expected to show, on request, that the education they provide is:

Suitable — efficient, full-time and right for your child's age, ability, aptitude and any special educational needs.

Evidenced — with records of what's been learned and how, not just a promise that it happened.

Ongoing — kept up over time, so it's there the moment your council asks.
